Freedom Centre Supports School Sporting Success

Pupils from Alderman Cogan's Primary School achieved huge success with the help of three East Hull Businesses.  The school won the inaugural Hull Police TAG Rugby tournament in May to qualify for the regional finals on 23 June at Pontefract Rugby Club.

The team coached by PCSO Scott Greenwood and PE Leader Jane Hilditch needed to raise sponsorship to fund the cost of the travel to the Regional Finals. The Freedom Centre and Environmental & Management Solution Ltd, both based at the Village Centre on Preston Road, stepped in to support the schools dream of regional success which could lead to a trip to Twickenham. Geoff Groom Chief Executive of the Freedom Centre said "We were delighted to support the school in their bid for sporting success. Sport is great for health and fitness but also develops communication skills and teamwork."

The team were also supported by the Co-Op Convenience store, Preston Road, who provide drinks and snacks for the team at the event.

The students performed well on the day but could not score the decisive tries to take them to the National Finals at Twickenham. The team did win a trophy, however, for "Most Spirited Team" and have been entered in to a draw to see the Ladies World Cup Final later this year. Jane Hilditch, PE Leader and coach said "We would like to thank The Freedom Centre, EMS Ltd and the Co-Operative for their generous donations towards our participation in the rugby tournament. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children."
